Previously a charity HQ, this modernist gem in Manchester’s trendy Northern Quarter was in a poor state of repair and an unlettable state when we acquired it.
Leaning into the area’s strong heritage of bold street art and design-led business, we pursued a strategy of creative re-use, drawing inspiration from the modernist angular white structure to reposition the asset with a Bauhaus-inspired mural.
The coherent approach across building design and visual identity successfully anchored the rebranding of the building as ‘Northstar’, establishing it as a clear landmark and talking point in the Northern Quarter, as well as backdrop for local creative business.

By retaining and creatively re-imagining the building we delivered the project for 80kg CO2e/ m2, less than 8% of the footprint we’d expect for a new build of similar scale.
Northstar is located in the heart of the city. Sitting proudly on Donegall Place it is in close proximity to City Hall.
